Square cake tins are available in a variety of sizes and the most common sizes are shown in the table below.
Note that the most popular sizes for square cake tins are 8-inch (20cm) and 9-inch (22.5cm). This is followed by 10-inch (25cm), 6-inch (15cm) and then 12-inch (30cm) tins.
The depth of most square cake tins is around 2 inches (5cm). Those termed ‘deep’ typically have a depth of 3-inches (7.5cm).

Points to remember:
- *1-inch (2.5cm) and 2-inch (5cm) cake tins usually come in the form of a multi-size tin. Depending on the type and size of these tins, you can partition them to make 16 or 36 individual square cakes. The nibble size treats are ideal for weddings and parties.
- Not every manufacturer quotes their measurements as taken from the inside edges of the tin. If accuracy is important, always check.
- Measurements quoted on tins are sometimes approximate and may be subject to slight variations.
